People, Wordpress is a blogging platform (and yes, a really good one, I agree)! But in a lot of cases it's just not flexible enough for CMS purposes (even with Flutter and/or Pods enabled) and not developed with that in mind.

MODx is, and my experiences with MODx are very positive. The flexibility is amazing. Once you get the hang of it you can do pretty much everything, even as a beginner. Programmers will keep their freedom to play with their fancy PHP-code. The extendility and implementation of the MODx backend is a little stiff though.

I also got my copy of the MODx web development book. I found it really informative. It explains the capabilities of MODx really well, especially for us beginners.

Only one thing. The word 'hence' was so overused (especially in the first two chapters!). Ah well, whining me. Book is great.

I'm glad for your input on ModX - I've definitely heard a lot of great things about it and have been wanting to delve into it for some time.

However, I do disagree with your view on WordPress. (I'm not sure what "Flutter" and "Pods" are, so I won't argue that point.) I've been developing sites with WordPress - pretty much soleley - for the last 4 years, I think? Since version 1.5.x. I haven't done a non-WordPress site in the last 2 years. And only two of them are blogs - one of them is this one.

I've been developing for WordPress as a CMS for many many happy clients. So I do disagree that WP is not a CMS platform - if you know what you're doing, it certainly is, and it's not that difficult to pull off, either. I agree, though - you needto be able to actually apply some PHP coding knowledge to get some real customization going for it, but I can't say that I view WordPress as just a blogging platform anymore.

But again, thanks for your input on ModX - as I mentioned before, I am definitely excited to dive in an see what I can do with it :) I still haven't had the opportunity to dive in yet - not as much as I'd like anyway - but it's climbing in my queue quickly. I'm itchin' to give it a really good go!

Shelly, thanks for posting your thoughts on ModX. I'm also stuck (very happily) with Wordpress at the moment, but would like to start getting to know a different platform. Great to hear your thoughts and impressions of changing to a different platform. Thanks.
