I got Stumbled!
January 23, 2009I was very (pleasantly!) surprised today when I checked my analytics and saw my visitors shot through the roof yesterday. I had a new referral in my stats: StumbleUpon. Now, I’m not a “new media guru” or a marketing expert – but I do know what StumbleUpon is. I’ve never fully explored it though – at the moment I’m dealing with Twitter – and it’s just a fun socializing experiment right now.
Now, I wanted to know what, exactly was stumbled. It wasn’t very clear in my stats. All it gave me was a referral to a page on Stumble Upon that basically said “If you’re seeing this link, someone stumbled you.” and that was pretty much it. I like to know what is helpful to others – because I like this site to be informative, and helpful – and who wants a “help” site that doesn’t offer anything really good, right? But darn it – I couldn’t figure out what was stumbled. I tried searching to no avail. I even signed up for an account, thinking maybe that would give me a little more access – but nope! Still couldn’t find it.
I figured it was one of my most popular articles here, so I tried searching for it my the full URL to some of them – still came up with nothing. Agh! It drove me mad! And once I get focused on a question, I cannot give up until I find the answer. (Shameless plug: which is one of the things my clients love about me!)
In steps Google, where I found this. And it’s very easy to implement for Firefox users…okay, for anyone that’s not using IE, to tell the truth.
And by God, this is who stumbled me. And it wasn’t any particular article either – it was just my entire site.
It’s awesome to know that people think this site is helpful. Now, I realize many of my colleagues think this site is helpful – but the stuff I write about is within their needs. They help me as much as I help them – well, hopefully anyway! But I never really gave it much thought as to really how many people come here, and that it would help people outside of my little circle. It’s an eye-opener! You get in your office and start thinking, sometimes, that your immediate group is really all who sees you. It’s so awesome to get a little knock from “the outside world” on occasion.
So thank you, Cnamdre! I’m very glad you stumbled me. Now I have a new fun addiction to play with! (After all, I did sign up for an account…LOL)
